As a result of its use, Augmentin has also become a leading antibiotic of choice in the fight against bacterial infections. It is also an important treatment for acne, a type of skin condition that causes redness and itching. Its ability to fight bacterial infections effectively has made it an essential part of the antibiotic arsenal against a variety of bacteria. If you have any concerns or questions, talk to your healthcare provider.
Augmentin belongs to a class of antibiotics known as beta-lactams, commonly known by the brand names Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid. It works by interfering with the bacteria's ability to produce enzymes that are essential for the growth and multiplication of the bacteria. By inhibiting the enzymes, Augmentin kills or slows down the growth of bacteria. It also helps reduce the inflammation and ulcers caused by infections. The drug works by inhibiting the production of proteins that can break down the bacteria, such as penicillin-like substances.
